After you go through your gate, you will feel far from civilization (except that cell service is available, but you might love being there so much you choose to ignore that!), but Marquette is only an hour s drive away, and Ishpeming and Negaunee are even closer. South Wolf Lake Road and Dishno Road are gravel, and in good condition. The Dishno Road is not open during deep winter unless a resident takes that on. You can host a crowd, a big family gathering, or be very happy here sipping coffee on the front porch watching the clouds roll over Wolf Lake all alone.
