"I would like to see a bigger interest and support from the administration for the fine arts portion of high school. Administration doesn't show support to the band, choir, or art classes as much as it is concerned about math and science classes."

"I went to a larger high school and was hesitant about my children being in a small school district, but I think looking back that the small class sizes are an improvement over larger."

"I may have only been at Bon Homme High School for three years, but I have had many experiences in that short time. Though the small classes are a downside -less people who have shared interests with you -it does allow students to participate in many extracurriculars without the strenuous process of making the cut for the team. Though some sports do still have tryouts (Cheerleading), most coaches will let you be on the team if you want to play no matter your skill level. The small classes also allow you to be very close with your teachers, and as a result you feel comfortable talking to them about grades and/or struggles in class. Some of my favorite experiences were going to State Competitive Cheer my very first year here as a Sophomore, and winning first place in the SDSU-sponsored poetry contest that same year. Bon Homme definitely isn't the worst school by any means, after all I did transfer from my previous school because it was so terrible, but I wouldn't say it's a wonderful learning environment. Since this is a very rural area that is well over 90% white, many of the students and teachers -not all, but most - are very close-minded in their views and values. Racism is also fairly common and there have been many times when I am in sheer awe of how ignorant people can be. I wouldn't be that bothered by just students being racist, after all they haven't had a chance to live in a more diverse area, but teachers making racist remarks in class really makes me furiously annoyed. If I could do it all over, I still would have transferred away from the high school I attended Freshman year, but I would not have come to Bon Homme. As I have discussed with both my mother and brother, Bon Homme isn't the worst school, but since there are more diverse and less close-minded schools in the area, we wish we had moved to a different community. I don't really regret my experiences at Bon Homme. It has given me new insight into a view of the world very different than my own."
